Madonna faces criticism for adopting from Malawi

Madonna traveled to Malawi this week to begin proceedings for adopting a little girl. Madonna also discussed plans for building a new school in Malawi for girls.

This is not the first time Madonna adopts a child from Malawi. Last year Madonna adopted her son David,3, from Malawi. Now, Madonna is back to adopt a little girl,4.

Harsh criticisms are being sent to Madonna from children advocacy groups accusing her of “wielding her immense wealth and influence to circumvent Malawian law requiring an 18- to 24-month assessment period before adoption.”

Save the Children UK spokesman, Dominic Nutt, said Saturday that,

International adoption can actually exacerbate the problem it hopes to solve…The very existence of orphanages encourages poor parents to abandon children in the hope that they will have a better life.”

All I have to say is that at least Madonna is using her wealth to make good deeds. At least Madonna is trying to make the life of a couple children happier and more pleasant, giving them an education and a warm safe home, rather than keeping them in an impoverished village at an orphanage.

Many famous and rich people these days use their wealth to buy twenty or so cars that they don’t need! I applaud Madonna for using her wealth to adopt children who have very little hope in living a happy life, and for her plans to build a school for girls.

As for the children advocacy groups and the people who are criticizing Madonna, I wonder if they really are for children advocacy. Because if they were, then they should be happy for the fact that two more needy children have the opportunity to a better life and education, rather than criticizing and postponing her efforts because she might be going against a law.
